My name is Matthew "Hippo" Finley and I have been a competitve player for SetToDestroyX since the beginning of this summer. Outside of this community I'm also a full-time student attending the University of Iowa, currently majoring in Electrical Engineering. It's tough, balancing school and all my other passions, but I'm moving mountains to make it work.
Unlike a lot of people in the competitive scene now, I didn't start playing Call of Duty at the beginning. Quite the opposite, in fact. I got an Xbox 360 for Christmas the year that Black Ops came out, and quite frankly I hated it. I wasn't very good, and it frustrated me to no end. Fortunately for me I'm stubborn, and refused to give up. That fire to be the best led me to compete at LAN for the first time in Anaheim, California, in 2014 for CoD:Ghosts. Just a few short years have gone by since I first picked up the sticks, and now I have the opportunity to play some of the best teams in the world. I've been able to travel outside the country to pursue this passion of mine. People that say they don't have the time to be great at something have obviously never had a desire to win.
Playing under StDx has opened a lot of doors for me - it's a very well-known organization and repping the name alone gives me more credability as a player. I've also had the opportunity to meet some amazing people and travel to some pretty cool places during my stay here at SetToDestroyX. I'm hoping I can continue to grow as a player and as a teammate to bring home the placings that I want and that this organization deserves. As with all things, this may just be a stepping stone in my career - but I will never forget what Charles, the owner, has taught me about leadership, dedication, and loyalty. I'll also never forget the friends I made along the way.
